About the Journal

Beyond the Sentence exists because too often, the voices of incarcerated people are silenced or distorted. The public rarely hears anything beyond the narrative of a conviction. But every person inside Wyoming’s prison system has a story and a voice. This annual, open-access journal, supported by the University of Wyoming’s Pathways from Prison program and the Writing Center, is one small attempt to make space for some of those voices and to challenge the limits of what we think we know.
