Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  • I have read and followed the directions provided on the "Submission Instructions" page.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Where available, URLs for references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses).
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
  • All illustrations, figures, and tables use clear naming conventions that correspond with the captions provided, and the desired location for each of these items is noted within the completed template.

Author Guidelines

*Be sure to read all of the template instructions carefully. If instructions are not followed, we may request that you re-write your report in the correct format*

First: Create Report Using the Submission Template

  1. Please follow this link to our new UW-NPS Annual Report template on Overleaf*.
  2. Click the green "Open As Template" button to create a new project in Overleaf for your report (Note: You will need to create an account and sign in to Overleaf in order to create and edit your report.)
  3. Change the name of your document from "UW-NPS_AnnualReportTemplate" to "Lastname_2022Report" To do this, hover over the document title at the top of the screen and click the pencil to edit.
  4. Update the "Report.tex" and "Bibliography.bib." documents within the template to create your report. You may also upload figures to the "Media" folder. The template contains further instructions for how to use Overleaf.
  5. When you are finished, export the report. To do this, open the menu in the top left-hand corner. Under "Download" select "Source." This will download a .zip file, which will contain the files you will need to submit.

Second: Submit your report in the UW-NPS Reports System

Submission Steps

Make a new submission:
Once you have downloaded your .zip file from Overleaf (Lastname_2022Report.zip), log in by clicking "log in" in the top left-right corner of the screen. Once logged in, click “Make a new submission” at the top of this page and follow the steps below.

Note: authors will need to sign in to create and update their submissions. New authors should have recieved an email from the address "swolf5@uwyo.edu" with the subject, "[UW-NPS] Journal Registration" with sign-in information. You may need to check your spam for the email. If you have issues signing in, please email Shawna Wolf (swolf5@uwyo.edu) for help.

Read on for more information and clarifications for each submission step. 

 

1. Start

Section: Pick one of the following: Research Project Geology, Research Project Hydrology, Research Project Ecology, or Research Project Cultural Resources and Human Dimensions. The other journal section options do not apply to this year's annual reports.
Submission guidelines: Affirm that your report follows all of the submission guidelines.
Comments for the editor: You may include comments for the editor if you wish.

 

2. Upload Submission

Click "Add File." In the pop-up window, locate and select your Lastname_2022report.zip file from Overleaf and click "open."  Select "Article Text" as the file type.

 

3. Enter Metadata

Most of this can be copied from your report. Fill in these sections:

Title: Titles should be written in sentence case.
Abstract: Copy/paste from your completed template.
Contributors: Click "add a contributor" then fill in their name, email, country, affiliation**, and role (which should nearly always be author).
Primary contact: When you are finished adding each contributor, be sure to mark which person should be the primary contact for future submission steps and other communications throughout this process.

**Our system will let you proceed without adding author affiliations, so please be mindful and make sure to include affiliations.

 

4. Confirmation

Before you finish your submission, we suggest double-checking it for accuracy. You can click to previous tabs if you would like to do so.

 

5. Next Steps

At this point, your work is finished! Wait to hear back from us for futher instructions.
